How
to become a member
Step
1: Pre-candidates:
Becoming an aiic pre-candidate is the first step to membership. It
shows that the pre-candidate expects acknowledgement of their advanced and
very specialised qualification and is prepared to work towards the very highest
level of professional expertise over many years.
To become a pre-candidate, applicants are required to complete the appropriate form and
obtain the signatures of three sponsors, confirming that the applicant
works as a conference interpreter respecting aiic rules. Any aiic full
member who has worked with an applicant can act as a sponsor.
Tip:
The member's directory lists all aiic interpreters together with their
language combination (i.e. which languages they work into and out of), address
and professional domicile. A list of pre-candidates is also available, which
in a sense is where pre-candidates first appear professionally. It offers
a basis for pre-candidates to contact experienced colleagues in the region.
The annual meeting of the German Region also offers an opportunity to establish
contacts with colleagues, and pre-candidates are very welcome.
Step
2:
Pre-candidate status remains in force until the candidate can demonstrate
that they have worked as a conference interpreter for 150 days in line with aiic rules.
The candidate then submits an application to become a full member. The Admissions
Committee (CACL) in Geneva takes decisions on admission to aiic.
